Your first step is to call John Robert Powers New England at its downtown Boston location (617-946-0508) to schedule your first audition. You’ll find the audition process very informative as you’ll learn basics about the modeling, acting and entertainment business.
The audition is a time for us to learn about you, your personality, your expectations, and career desires. The audition gives our staff the opportunity to meet you, evaluate your potential and educate you about the business. Auditions can and should be fun!
What to expect:
Be prepared to spend approximately one to two hours at John Robert Powers in Boston for your complimentary, no obligation first audition. We begin with a small group seminar to educate you on various aspects of modeling, acting and show business. Next, you’ll meet with a Talent Director from our Dream Makers Productions for a one-on-one interview, followed by an on-camera screen test. Relax, have fun, and show all your personality.
(Note: If you’re under 18, a parent or legal guardian is required to attend with you. We encourage both parents to attend so they, too, can learn about us and the realities of the acting, modeling and entertainment business. Cooperation, assistance and emotional support of the family are critical to the success of those training at John Robert Powers.)
What to wear:
An audition is just like a job interview; dress in your most fashionable outfit, age appropriate. Girls should wear nothing revealing. No short-short skirts/shorts or low-cut tops. Children under 12 should not wear make-up. Girls 13 and over should wear “natural make-up.” Boys should not wear jeans; a collared shirt, sweater or pullover is acceptable.
What to bring:
There are two items we request. Bring a recent snapshot of yourself that we can keep. No photos will be returned. This photo does not need to be professional, just something that we can keep on file to reference during and after the interview.
Also, we ask that you prepare a resume outlining any experiences or marketable skills that you have relating to the entertainment business. This should include any acting, modeling, singing or dancing experience, sports or other activities that you are or have been involved in, as well as any specific interests you may have.
The Selection Process:
Whether or not you will be selected for training is based on several criteria such as type cast (age, height, hair color, eye color and ethnicity), your personality, knowledge of the industry and on-camera performance.
Our staff is going to be honest with you regarding your potential (or lack thereof) for the field you are pursuing. Please remember that this feedback is not meant to hurt your feelings but to give you direction (Example: “You are too short to be considered for runway modeling, but your on-camera screen test indicates you’d be good acting in TV commercials”).
If you are accepted for training at John Robert Powers, from time to time you’ll be scouted and interviewed by industry professionals. Often, agents from New York come to Boston looking for fresh new faces, the stars of tomorrow.
Marketing is a key ingredient to the success of John Robert Powers and its Dream Maker Productions clientele. Working in this industry is not based on submission of photos. It requires training, auditioning and exposure to those who make the decisions.
