John Robert Powers founded the modern day billion-dollar modeling, talent, and corporate training industry. In the early 1920's, Mr. Powers came to New York City with the hopes of becoming an actor. His business and entrepreneurial skills led him elsewhere. One day, he overheard an associate say he was looking for a group of attractive people to pose for magazine advertisements. Mr. Powers rounded up some actor friends, trained them to pose for these advertisements and the modeling industry was born. John Robert Powers founded the first modeling agency in 1923.
From his many writings and published books, Mr. Powers created the curriculum that is the core of the personality development, modeling and other courses offered at the international network that is John Robert Powers.
This year the John Robert Powers System celebrates 86 years of training more than two million people for fame, success and life.
Mr. Powers believed that there is no such thing as an unattractive person, just some young people who did not know how to make the most of themselves. He dedicated his life to helping them take maximum advantage of their personalities.
Naturalness was his gospel. He encouraged his female students, "don't make up, make down."
We still believe and teach this philosophy. Be yourself. Be natural. That’s what our courses are all about.
Fame and fortune have come to many personalities who were trained in the methods originated by Mr. Powers. First Lady Jackie Kennedy, Raquel Welch and Diana Ross attended John Robert Powers. Princess Grace of Monaco (Grace Kelly), Lucille Ball, and James Dean were Powers Models.
More recently, John Robert Powers graduates have appeared in numerous commercial campaigns for McDonald's, Disney, Microsoft, Subway, Sprint, MasterCard, Pepsi, Chevrolet, Revlon and Home Depot.
